cindy c chose this japanese comfort food restaurant in midtown east for lunch today. what is japanese comfort food? lots of bowls. bowls filled with various combinations of rice, egg, fish, meat, sauce, and pickles. all served with a salad and ridiculously good and mayonnaise-y potato salad. and very good tea.

yup, that's about it. solid spot. will definitely go again when i'm in the mood for some katsu. and potato salad.

  1. From CR: This is another sort of midpoint between our offices!

  2. Have you tried the Chinese restaurant Shih Lee on E. 45th between 1st and 2nd Ave.? It's a little dive frequented by the Chinese in the area. You have to avoid the dishes for Americans but they have some great fatty pork stew, oxtail stew, tripe with black bean sauce, whole fried fish, etc. It's packed at lunchtime but $7 for two entrees and a rice/noodle dish, with a little splash of extra baby bok choy or cabbage.
